Hi Nick,
I hope you had a nice trip in Bali.
I have a problem when downloading my dives. All of a sudden, MacDive doesn't find any valid serial port. I downloaded the FTDIUSB serial thingy and installed it. It still won't work.
Any idea ? I'm still running OSX 10.8.5 and my trusty OSTC 2N.
Cheers

Re: Valid serial port
Nothing has changed in terms of the OSTC. Maybe try a different cable?

That didn't work. I tried both cables on another device and they both worked. I've asked on the HW forum as well, maybe I'll have more luck there.
Cheers

On another device as in another ostc?
Interesting. I would be curious to hear what they say.

No joy on the HW forum either.
I upgraded to Maverick as the FDTI documents stated that the drivers were no longer needed with Maverick but it didn't work either.
I have no clue what to do. I tried different cables but they all seem to work since they can recharge my device. Tried every USB port, same result. I'm really at a loss.

The ftdi document is not 100% correct. For most dive computers you still need it. The one that is included only supports a limited number of devices.

Ok. I did reinstall the appropriate drivers but it still doesn't work.... I'm getting quite irritated I must admit.

I'm not really sure what to tell you here - of MacDive can't see the serial port it can't download. Let me ask some other users and see if anyone had had similar issues.
You seemed to say above that one device doesn't work, but the other does?

I only have 1 device, the OSTC. Well I do have the Shearwater too but I use the OSTC to download dives in order to save the battery life of the SW. The rMS system is very power hungry.

Re: Valid serial port
I've solved my problem. Posting my solution so other can benefit from it.
I thought my iMac was a 64bit architecture (I still think it is...) but the 64bit drivers wouldn't work. I tried it on my wife's computer and still no joy. So I've decided to install the 32bit drivers and... it worked. Go figure.
I still don't know why it was broken in the first place but it works now.
