Failed connecting to dive computer on serial port

Post by Frogman Marty »

I own Oceanic ProPlus 3 AND Oceanic Veo 100NX

Using factory cable, Mac OS 10.9.4, i get the error message.

Using MacDive trial software to make sure I like it, then will purchase, definitely.

The manual said there was a USB driver on the CD for Mac, didn't see that either.

Suggestions?

thanks!

Hi,

You need to install the USB driver. Here's the direct link:

Thanks, but I installed the driver from the link, tried to upload from the Veo and got this message

Failed connecting to dive computer on serial port '/dev/tty.usbserial-20030001' (Error Code: -8)

The most common reason for this would be that the device is not in PC Transfer mode. Next up would be low battery. With your Pro Plus 3 in particular, the cable fits both ways but will only work one way (From memory, logo side up). I forget what the Veo connector is like, but double check that is not the same case. Ensure you do not have any bent pins or other damage to the cable.

There are a few more suggestions in Troubleshooting Downloads in the help, along with these.

Also note the Veo 100 NX is not actually supported. From memory there is no information to download, the PC interface is only provided to adjust settings.

Your Pro Plus 3 will work, and the error message above is 99% likely to be the cable plugged in upside down.

thanks again, but still getting the same error code.

I tried it only on the proPlus 3 and with the plug in both directions.
As i look at the cable/plug, I notice that the three pins are not aligned, but are in a triangular shape, the middle being above or below, depending on the alignment. I assume it is supposed to be like that.

any other ideas?

The cable adapter is so poorly designed :(

The Pro Plus is usually pretty reliable to download. Do you have a low battery?

I would recommend trying the official Oceanic software to ensure there is no problem with the cable and that the device downloads as expected. Also make sure that you do not have both cables plugged in at the same time, or it might be trying to use the incorrect cable to talk to the device.

If the USB driver was installed then as I said the Pro Plus 3's are typically very reliable to download. By far and away the most common problem is plugging the cable in upside down. I would recommend trying it a couple of times both ways. Try unplugging it and plugging it back in after a minute, also. The connections aren't great, sometimes you just don't have it on right. This is why the help suggests "jiggling the cable" - you'd be surprised how many times this solves a problem, just by unplugging it and trying again.

But the official software will rule out a faulty cable and let you know whether you have it the right way around, that kind of thing.

I do not understand that sentence. BOTH cables? I only have one cable.

Tried the official Oceanic software and got Time Out.

I am now trying to find out if the cable is the wrong one. It is 4.9600 ver 1

now what?????????
