Problem Downloading from Suunto Vyper Air

Post by iamjblevine »

I've been using MacDive for about 2-3 years. I've been very happy with it. Back in about May it stopped communicating with my Suunto Vyper Air. I was pretty busy so I just ignored the problem and finally got around to looking into it. Here's what I have done to date:
1. wiped my hard drive and done a clean instal of the OS.
2. Downloaded and installed the FTDI driver.
3. Downloaded and installed a new copy of MacDive. Got a new license. It's a great program and I'm happy to support the program.
4. When I connect the cable to the dive computer it goes into Data Transfer mode just fine.
5. When I attempt to download dives I get the following error: Import Error/Failed to read dive computer memory (error code: -9)

Nothing about FTDI in the console other than the install messages and a start -ok message.
As I said this worked great for years, but just stopped out of the blue. I'd love some advice on how to fix this.

Thanks

Generally when things "just stop working" with symptoms as you have described, I would check that your battery is not low. Another common issue is a bad connection - check the contacts are ok, not damaged or dirty, etc.

We can look in to the issue in more detail if a replacement batteyr doesn't help (note that even if it doesn't say "low battery", that doesn't necessarily mean it's not low - I know this from personal experience).

Also with this particular device, try downloading a couple of times in a row. Sometimes the device can fail to respond, that sometimes helps.

If none of those suggestions help, please drop me an email and I will send you some test instructions. But I would suspect the battery.

Cheers,
-nick
