Cannot Download from Mares PUCK

Hello,
I am trying to download my logbook from a Mares PUCK.
I keep getting this message:

Failed connecting to dive computer on serial port ’/dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART” (error Code: -7)

-I have downloaded and installed the following driver from the mac-dive website: SiLabsUSBDriverDisk.dmg
-I have gone to: Preferences -> Advanced, and clicking "Scan for serial port” and chose: /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART
-I have bought a new battery.
-I have locked the PUCK in PC mode.
-It works with Divers Diary, the Mares software.

Have a read of this thread, specifically this page:

There is a link to an alternate version of a driver that is more reliable in later versions of OS X. There are some horrible instructions on the page that is linked to, but if you check the comments there is a link to a graphical installer that makes it easier.

That driver tends to be a lot more reliable, especially on Lion or later.

Thanks for your prompt response.
I am not very tech savvy and have not succeeded at installing the new driver I found in the thread you mentioned.

and follow the instructions in "terminal" and this is what I get:

I also tried to the PL2303 Serial USB Lion Installer. It says it did install it but the old driver from Silicon Laboratories, Inc. keeps showing up in both Mac Dive preferences and in my mac system information under hardware - USB.
My mac is mid 2012 MacBook Air

Thanks for your help. I must have spent at least 3 hours on this. Leaving Saturday for Palau and the Truk.

As I said, read the comments and find the graphical installer, and do not run those instructions:

Hmm, seems the link to the installer is no longer there. There is also an updated version for 10.8.4 if you read the comments:

http://www.xbsd.nl/pub/osx-pl2303.kext_1084.tgz

So, download that to make sure you grabbed the latest version.

This is going to be easier if you email me so I can give you more specific instructions, as what you've copied/pasted is not quite correct. I'd rather do it off-forum and give you more tailored instructions to follow.

Ah, I found it:

Download the installer from there, and just follow the on screen instructions. The post says it works on Mountain Lion also.
