Hi,

Sorry if this has been covered. I've seen a number of similar posts but nothing that seems to address the exact issue.

I'm running 10.9.1 on a MacBook Air with Macdive 2.3.0. I'm trying to download from a Suunto Mosquito using a Plugable brand Prolific-based USB to serial adapter and the Suunto serial cable. I have installed the latest Prolific drivers (PL2303 Prolific Mac OS X 10.9 – 10.6 v1.5.1) from the Plugable website.

When I download in Macdive I get this error:

Import Error: Failed to read header information (Error Code: -7)

System Profiler does see the USB cable and I do get a different error if the cable is not plugged in so I believe the Mac does see a COM port. I also know that the cable/dive computer combination works on a Windows 7 PC using SDM 3.1. The computer has a brand new battery.

I've seen references to another Prolific driver but it isn't clear to me that this driver works with 10.9.

Any suggestions?

The suggestion is, as with all the other threads, to use the third party driver. It seems to be a lot more reliable. As far as I'm aware it works with 10.9.

Look through the other threads, there's plenty of links. If you can follow the Terminal instructions that's great, if not, the comments in the thread link to a graphical installer.

Also make sure you're not using a USB hub, and that you do not have low battery. Either of those will cause similar issues. I'm sure you're on to it, but also make sure the device is in PC Transfer mode.
