The last few times I have gone to download data from my Sunnto D4i after a dive, I keep getting an import error warning (see screenshot). After a while of restarting the computer etc it will eventually import the data, however this is getting quite frustrating.
When I first get the error, if I turn on Suunto DM4, it will immediately import the data without any restarts or disconnecting the computer, so there is no problem with the cable or the computer ports.
I have reinstalled Macdive, and the drivers and still no luck resolving the issue. Could you please advise how I can fix this problem?
Some details to help:
Dive computer: Suunto D4i (new battery and using Suunto supplied data cable)
Laptop: 2014 Macbook pro, running Mavericks
Software: Latest version of Macdive and all software/drivers. Nothing changed (software or hardware wise) from when the error started happening.

Re: Import Error
Nothing has changed with regards to downloading from a D4i in quite some time, so it's unlikely anything to do with MacDive specifically. From the information you've provided, my best guess would be that the times it fails, you have Suunto DM4 running in the background. It has been known to interfere, it is somewhat selfish with the way it talks to devices. I'd make sure it is not running at all before trying to download with other applications. This error is common in that case.
Re: Import Error
Hi Nick
Thanks for your reply.
I Just used the DM4 program working as an example, even if I restart the computer or don't even turn DM4 on, I will still get the same error. Eventually I can get it to connect, but I was hoping not to spend 20 minutes every time I want to download the data from my computer.
Is there a way to fix the error?
Thanks

Re: Import Error
As I said, the most likely issue is DM4 conflicting. The Suunto D series are very reliable to download (I have one and never have problems with it, other than low battery). Most likely it would be DM4 as I said, the other likely cause for the intermittent success would be your cable. Check the oring is ok on it and not damaged, this is another common problem. It could just be coincidence that you jiggle it around and it's fine when you try DM4.
If you still have problems after that, we can run some tests and see if there is something wonky with your device. It's unlikely, but never say never. I assume you've read the help also and aren't using a USB hub, etc.

Re: Import Error
I had this same problem every time is used the DM4 software.
For me, the fix was to reinstall the driver used for Macdive.
Somehow running DM4 causes a problem. My permanent solution was to not use DM4 (who needs it anyway)
