For example, I would love to be able to exclude 'Notes' in my XML exports before I upload to Divelogs.de website. I see this is already an option for the PDF export. Would be awesome to also extend to XML export.

I'd rather not make the XML format configurable. By doing so, the code that reads it then needs to perform more checks to validate whether or not data exists and is in an appropriate format. It is intended to be very simple to read/write that format, and be a consistent set of data.

Other applications may (rightfully) expect it to exist, so removing it is a potential problem for them also.

I completely understand and agree with your methodology in preserving the .xml format. I don't mean to suggest that the field(s) be removed from the .xml export, just that they be left blank.

If not the least, would you consider applying to the Note field? I find some of the Dive Notes I keep contain private information that I would rather not share with the general public (when I upload to Divelogs.de)

I could potentially do that, I guess I could jam another preference in some place to leave the notes specifically blank. Seems like a reasonable compromise.
