Ceazare:

This is the main window of MacDive.

The main view
In the main area of the screen, you will see a nice blue graph and a table. The graph is your currently selected dive profile (complete with alarms and any images MacDive has found to correspond to this dive).

The table lists all of the dives you have selected, based on the current dive log or search. You can edit some of the columns in this table (the ones that are not greyed out) by clicking on the text and waiting a second, much like in any other OS X application.

To edit the fields that are grey, load the Dive Inspector using the button in the toolbar (see the toolbar section below), press Command + I, or use the menu item.

By default not all the columns available are shown in the table view. To view additional columns right click on one of the column headings and select the additional columns you want to view. You can also change the columns to view in the Preferences.

Sidebar
On the left, you'll (hopefully) notice a fancy old navigation bar. This allows you to move around the various areas of MacDive. It's broken down into a few sections.

Library

The Library contains the main functions of MacDive. Here, you can view all of your dives, or just recently imported dives (anything added in the last 30 days). You can also navigate to the Gear view, the Sites view, and the Sites Map.

Countries

This section is like an iTunes Smart Playlist. It is automatically built and maintained out of the list of countries that you have dived in. Whenever you add a new site to a dive, that country will pop up here and allow you to quickly filter your dives.

Date

This section provides quick links to your recent dives.

Divers

Much like the countries, this section is built out of the name of divers in the Diver column.

Computers

And another! Same as Divers and Countries, but based on the dive computer.

Dive Logs

This section contains your custom Smart Divelogs. For example, you can create divelogs that show all of your dives that were made in Thailand and were at least 20 metres deep, and rated over 3 out of 5.

Toolbar
Views

Some pages, like Sites and Dives, allow you to change the view. These buttons will be enabled if that is the case. For example, when viewing your dives, you can swap to the "Statistics" view to get an idea of your overall diving.

Actions

The gear like icon allows you to quickly create a new dive, new bit of gear, or new smart divelog.

Info

The blue info icon allows you to open the inspector. If you are on the Dives view, this is the Dive Inspector and will let you edit information about dives. If you have the Gear view selected, this will allow you to edit a piece of selected gear. The inspector can also be opened by using Command + I, or the menu item.

Search

This allows you to quickly filter the selected list of dives or gear to search for one or more strings. It works in conjunction with whatever smart divelog you have selected (if you're on the main divelogs view).
