Most dive computers will stop a dive and begin recording a second dive after a short time interval. Sometimes you may be on the surface just outside of this threshold, but you actually think of the dives as one dive.

Merging dives allows you to combine two or more shorter profiles in to one profile.
New page

So what's this "Merge Selected" thingy?

Merging dives allows you to combine two or more shorter profiles in to one profile. A common situation is when you do one dive, but you surface for a brief period during the dive - for example, as part of a training session or perhaps you came back to the surface to collect something. Most dive computers will stop a dive and begin recording a second dive after a short time interval. Sometimes you may be on the surface just outside of this threshold, but you actually think of the dives as one dive.

Here's an example. In this case, the dive computer recorded two dives.

If you look at the surface interval of the second dive, it is only 8 minutes. I'd like to just consider this one dive, so I want to merge the profiles. When I select them both and choose File -> Merge Selected, I end up with the profile below.

Note that the total duration includes both dives, and also the 8 minute surface interval (as the total time is a reflection of the actual time). You can also see how the profiles have been joined together. The core information (such as entry time, location, repetitive dive, etc) is all taken from the *first* dive, as it is assumed that you are adding extra profile data to the end of that.
