MacDive User Manual

Introduction

Rather than including built-in help in MacDive itself, help is provided on this wiki. That allows the information to be updated without having to release new versions of MacDive. If you have any suggestions for additional content, please let me know!

This main page provides links to some of the more common topics/questions, and you can browse through the contents below for more detailed information on various parts of the app.

Troubleshooting Downloads

Please read the Troubleshooting_Downloads guide thoroughly if you are having issues downloading from your dive computer. When requesting support via email, please describe what steps you followed in this guide and what the result was at each step as thoroughly as possible.

Please do not email me with "It's not working! Help!". This is not very helpful, and just means we have to exchange more emails to get things working for you. At the very least, please provide the following information:

  • Your model of dive computer
  • What kind of USB cable you are using (official, third party, etc)
  • What USB driver you installed
  • The exact error message you are receiving

I'd love to help get things working for you, but if you do not provide this basic information it is much more difficult to help!

Suunto D4i/D6i/D9tx

Important Note: If you are using a new Suunto D4i/D6i/D9tx, please be aware that the USB cable is different to that of the older D4/D6/D9. They are not compatible. Please ensure you purchase the correct cable. You are using the incorrect cable if you receive this message:

Failed connecting to dive computer on serial port '/dev/tty.usbserial-ST000001'

Custom Idea USB Cable

If you are using a Custom Idea USB cable, you may want to try this driver. There are reports that it is more reliable than the one listed on their website, particularly when using OS X Lion (10.7).

iOS Syncing

Please read the Dive Log Sync guide for information on iOS syncing. It provides a useful background and has some suggestions on how to get syncing and merging working smoothly.

Managing tanks, gases and SAC rate

Please see Managing Tanks And Gases for information.

Dive Computer Data Limitations

Some models of dive computer store more data than others. Before contacting support, please read Dive Computer Data Limitations if you think you are missing data, or seeing strange values.
