Here's a great little trick that a user emailed me some time ago.
MacDive typically does Dive Numbering on a per-device basis. Meaning, if you import from two dive computers into a brand new logbook, they will both start numbering from Dive #1. This means if you use two computers they are classed as the same dive, rather than separate dives. I use this all the time as I dive with multiple computers one every dive, and I want them all to be numbered the same as they represent the same dive.
But some of you like to number them all sequentially. There's an easy way to do this, although it's not entirely automated. You can create a new piece of Gear and set the type to "Computer". You can then add that to every dive via the Dive Inspector. Now, head back to gear, and you can renumber your dives in the usual way - but they will all be numbered sequentially for that one fake dive computer.
You can also set this piece of gear to "Automatically add to every dive". Next time you want to do this, simply head to Gear and renumber the dives in the usual way and all of your numbers should be updated.
